a new unit will do
theres very fine wires inside
and they break real easy
mine was half way down then 0/0,so drove till the light comes on
now its all fixed up
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Yes, sender most likely, I had the same problem and the new sender fixed it. Remember to disconnect the battery when changing it!

Same problem...maybe not? Gauge worked when I bought the car three weeks ago. The second time I filled the tank, all the way to the top where it was visible in the tube, and the gauge went to full and never dropped again. Last week we fiddled with the sender and it worked again.....until I just tanked up way high again. Now it reads half full despite putting 8.5 gallons in the tank. Wondering....could filling the tank all the way up the inlet pipe cause trouble for the gauge.....the float sticking?
