Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
Perthling, every time I see that picture of you, the wife, and the new baby with the car you were brought home in I get the biggest kick out of it.
That is great!

Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
A quick update on that car - it's been at my Dad's place for the last couple of years as I haven't had room to store it (bigger shed now so I should have it back at my place soon). For the last 5 months it's been getting 'fettled' at a Fiat specialist, to bring it back as close as possible to as delivered condition. He picked it up today and it will make it to the All Italian Car Day here in Perth on Sunday. He confirmed that it is running very well now (which is Dadlish for 'he revved the crap out of it up the freeway'). Lots of little jobs; new bushes, fixed some electric gremlins, new head (had a 2-litre head on it somehow - weird since we have owned the car since new, not sure when that got swapped), new door and window seals. Apparently there's about 80kg of old bits now in the boot (trunk).
Can't wait to drive it again!

Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
He's no chick, but while thinking of spring and good driving weather, I found this photo of my 20 year old son from last summer. He is being transferred to Edmonton (a ferry ride and 700 miles away) in a couple of weeks. He has always been enthusiastic about my various cheap rides! It is great to share an interest in old and exotic cars. Over the years we've worked our way through a Porsche 914 and a Triumph, plus his two BMW's. Now he has his own life...sigh

I've now got a matching one (photo that is) with my newborn son Oliver, born 10Oct09. Update to follow in the original post on that topic.rlux4 wrote:Perthling, every time I see that picture of you, the wife, and the new baby with the car you were brought home in I get the biggest kick out of it.

here's my recently acquired '76 Spider, with my wife and two youngest daughters.
I wish I had a photo of the others I've owned.

What do your girls think of your new toy, Maytag? I ended up having to buy a few Fiats so the kids wouldn't fight over who got the car after I died. Imagine realizing you're worth more to your kids dead than alive.

Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
Very cool pictures.
By the way, thanks for the idea. I have 2 daughters as well - A Fiat Spider - no back seat - tiny crampt cockpit with a stick shift and e brake (a hidden cell phone with gps). My girls are so borrowing daddy's car for prom.

ya know, it's funny you'd ask.mdrburchette wrote:What do your girls think of your new toy, Maytag? I ended up having to buy a few Fiats so the kids wouldn't fight over who got the car after I died. Imagine realizing you're worth more to your kids dead than alive.
They love it. I didn;t think they would, 'cuz it's old, rough & stinky. But they love it.
so here's the deal:
My wife, 14 yr old son and the two youngest (pictured) all love the Fiat and the wife's Jeep Commander..... and none of 'em want to go ANYWHERE in my Jaguar (silver, pictured on the street in one of those photos above).... but my oldest (21, and the brand-conscious one of the bunch) ALWAYS needs to borrow the Jag; "Nothing else will do, Dad".
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
Good idea, Denise! i recently told my oldest she could have my Spider if she could pry the keys from my cold, dead fingers. she replied that she knew where i hid my spare set of keys!!mdrburchette wrote:I ended up having to buy a few Fiats so the kids wouldn't fight over who got the car after I died. got two spiders now, and four daughters. I guess by your logic that means i need to buy two more Fiats!! Dang, i hate it when that happens

Re: My Chicks and My Spiders
Not a spider, but rather our 1972 Euro Coupe with the factory twin IDF set up, taken in Spain in 1973. And, of course, my bride of nearly 40 years. I was able to bring the coupe back to the US becuase I was in the military and it came back on a Navy ship. We had the coupe as our only car until 1978, when it was totaled in a wreck with a Camaro. We bought a 131 to replace it, but within a few weeks I had another B Coupe and nearly bankrupted us buying all the HiPo parts to make it like the euro model. Both it and the lady in my life are still great looking and of a timeless design! Now the coupe is yellow and has the new 2.0L FI motor in it to keep it fresh, and my wife can still beat me up on the dance floor!
