There has been some discussion about that. My opinion is to keep that but others may tell you different.
is there a pipe you can use to replace the resonater so you can leave it out ? That would crack up the sound a bit right ? since i replaced the mufler with a new one i mis the deep grumble if anyone has a replacement pipe for this i would be interested ...

or am i missing something here.Do you need it for something else than sound ?

Well... sound can be produced by a free-as-possible flow - from the intake to the header then through the system. If you want to leave out the resonator there are kits available - even not being legal for street use in EU - see this:

You can get these at http://www.gb-motorentechnik.de/

I took my resonator off just because I want to be louder than Harleys...

Mark and anyone else, is the ansa muffler really junk? I am looking for an exahst system that will give me the deepest, loudest, throatiest sound out of a 2.0l as possible... any suggestions? I am almost tempted to just put an electric cuttout and bypass the muffler completely...

The PO installed a cat-back system on my car in the late '80s with an Ansa muffler and no resonator. The muffler had pretty much rotted out from the inside, so I replaced it last weekend. None of the Fiat parts suppliers had one in stock, but I did manage to find one at autopartswarehouse.com for $220 and free shipping. I know the Ansa muffler is not as high of quality as some of the all stainless options, but the last one lasted nearly 20 years, and I think it looks and sounds great. But I am sure others have different opinions.
