I've got a sump guard sitting around too. Doesn't it go straight on to the bumper mount posts using those bolts?
I think the engine shield may appear soonish .... I'm guessing the sump guard never will!

Re: Where to get a rock guard
I've had one of those things laying around for ages. I never could figure out how it is supposed to bolt to the chassis!Redline wrote:Related to this, I have one of these lying around for years now, with the idea to eventually put it on my Coupe. I've seen some installation pictures with very substantial bolts holding them on. What is the recommended bolt size? As the rear mounting points are on the crossmember, are there any concerns with drilling and tapping additional holes there?
I assume the vertical mounts overlaps the control arm to crossmember bolts?

I've seen the vertical arms mounted to drilled and tapped holes in the radiator supporting structure.
Then again, I just found this:
Then again, I just found this:
And then there is this different version on a Coupe:The sump guards were designed to bolt (at the front) to the
bumper shocks bolts of the later (1975-85) Spiders. On the
earlier car one has to be a little creative.
The rear part of the sump guard attaches to the rear of the lower
a-arm pivots. You have to undo the large nut, slide the
sumpguard legs onto the exposed studs than put the nuts back.
On the front you have to drill holes in the chassis box section,
then cut pieces from square tubing to go between the sump guard's
legs and the box section (to fill the large gap). Then you just
put a bolt through on each side.
This is all assuming that you have the same sumpguard as the one
sold here Stateside...

Re: Where to get a rock guard
Anyone have a picture of the stock under engine shield, not installed, just sitting on a flat surface? One of next spring's min-chores will be the re-install of my original, but looking at it, I'm thinking it may have been "re-formed" by PO's/mech's. Guess I'd like to see what an "index" shield looks like, and go from there.
Mine needs a good scraping/brushing/cleaning, then some satin enamel to match the other underside bits. Also going to copy Pete's modification for the oil filter, right down to the rubber edging!
Thanks
Neil
PS: Andy, I'm interested in whatever you come up with as well.

Here's a partial view, but I have already done the cutout on the right. Orientation is upside down and backwards (like the shuttle re-entry).
