Re: Insurance Survey - Update
I am going to look into this. I am with Co-operators and had an appraisal done last fall (prior to all the work & upgrades) and it came in @ $6000. I pay 40.85/mnth (while driving)courtenay wrote:Just ran the numbers again with Haggerty Canada. Re: Insurance Survey
Jay,
The Haggerty quote only covers collision and comprehensive. In BC, we have to buy our basic liability coverage from the Provincial Insurance Company, ICBC. The annual premium for that (without Collector status) is about $500. So the total for both basic and Haggerty is about $700, or slightly more than your monthly cost.

Re: Insurance Survey
Your liability is pretty high though. That is probably a lot of the premium right there.

Re: Insurance Survey
I now have a policy with Hagerty (Canada) which gives me agreed value coverage of $10,000 for collision and comprehensive with $100 deductible as well as $1,000,000 third party liability. Cost is $154 per year.
I have arranged for 6 months coverage through our BC Government Insurance Company (ICBC), which is compulsory here, for an additional $1,000,000 third party liability, but no collision or comprehensive. Cost is $600 per year.
I have applied for Collector Status through ICBC and if my application is successful, the $600 annual cost would be reduced to $!40.
Interestingly, my initial application for Collector Status was rejected because a small piece of window molding had popped out and appeared defective in one of the pictures and because the paint on my fuel door had faded. I've fixed the molding problem and am waiting for a can of touch up paint to fix the fuel door problem. I can resubmit pictures once I have these things taken care of and should get the Collector Plates for the car. Result will be a total annual cost of insurance of about $300 per year - for $2,000,000 Third Party Liability, $10,000 agreed value for Collision and Comprehensive with a $100 deductible. There are no mileage restrictions on the car. The only requirement from both ICBC and Hagerty is that the vehicle cannot be a daily driver and you must be able to prove you have another vehicle licensed and insured.

Re: Insurance Survey
Bruce, that sounds like a great deal compared to a yearly rate with ICBC. I can't qualify for collector but will look into the Hagarty program.
I've had a few issues with my truck being stolen a few years ago(damb it they recovered it as well) and ICBC was great, however I'm concerned about the valuation on my car, I have a number in my head and I'm sure they would use a dart board or something to determine the value so I think Hagarty would be a better bet.

Re: Insurance Survey
Chris,
Hagerty was great to deal with. I made the application on line, including sending them pictures of the car. They also wanted proof of insurance on our primary vehicle. There was not discussion surrounding my valuation of the car at $10,000.

Re: Insurance Survey
I believe collector plates does not restrict you from using it as a daily driver. The only restriction is you can not use it if you drive to work. Although, as you say you must have one other vehicle registered as non-collector as well.
