I'm with Kieth, Make sure everything is set up properly first and then you can start to identify the problem. Check wire(s), ground pods, timing and cam marks for proper positioning, set points and dwell, check fuel pressure, filters etc. Also don't forget the idle solenoid (car will usually stall at idle if defective). btw the switching from starting to running points on the dual point system is a via arelay under the dash and you need to pull the relay and set the points ( both sets) by connectiong the correct set with a jumper wire. Since you only have one set, make sure the car is warm before trying to check your idle etc. This will also have an impact on being able to start the car when cold as the starting points were 10 degrees advanced of the running points.
