I don't know, the car had an electric pump when I bought it with the mechanical still in place. I haven't started the car in a few years and wanted to replace the pump and when I took off the pump I noticed there is no lobe. I think I am just gonna stay with the electric.

you still need the aux shaft even with an electric pump. So the block in the pic is not in the car?

I would start with a aux shaft that you KNOW is out of the proper engine, there are tons of them around. Get the right piece.

This is where the shaft was broken next to the other shaft.

And the short broken part is where? The one we had to deal with looked identical. It was contact from the #2 rod at a start up. Ended up dropping the pan/lifting the engine to get the back part out.

I already took off the pan to check the pump and beat out a dent, the baffle was cut out of the pan so I guess it was already taken out.

no, it doesn't have the second bearing for support.

Have you had a chance or are able to look in the shaft passage-way? Mirrors or pull the rad I guess. What does the back bearing surface look like? I thinks the end of the broken shaft might have bashed against the surface, perhaps scoring it or something preventing a new one to go in. If you are going to use an electric pump, many will cut the end of the shaft(lobe) off and drill out the oil passage to accept the oil passage plug like on the end of the lobe. Some will tap and screw a plug in as well. Then there is never going to be an issue contacting the #2 rod. and you will still have the two bearing surfaces.

You're right, I felt through the fuel pump access and there is a gouge in the bearing and as soon as I felt it a small piece fell off. Is it possible just to grind it down a little or do I need to replace the bearings. Can I do it with the engine in the car? Thanks for the tips.

What is the worst that can happen from leaving the broken one in?

I'd be looking at replacing the bearings. Check the various vendors for that part. I'm thinking when we dropped the oil pan and slid it out of the way and rotated the enging a bit to get the #2 out of the way,we had access to the aux shaft passage. Now I've never replaced an aux bearing and hope someone here can better answer that part if it can be done from below.
I'm thinking if you leave the broken one in, you have the shaft supported buy only one bearing surface. The broken end will not track straight , flap about, adding more strain to the single bearing, oil pump gears ect.

those aux shaft bearings have to be reamed to the proper diameter once they're installed

About how much should I expect to pay for them to press and ream them?
