For those that wont take the time to calculate CR properly, i say this....build your engines and pay the price by not being able to drive them on pump gas.
8mm pistons in a 2L will take CR to around 11-11.8:1.depending on head. Dont believe me...try checking for yourselves and not believing everything people tell you.
Those 8mm pistons are great for an 1800. around 10:1 +- depending on head.
Im using genuine fiat regatta 100s pistons with 8mm dome,in an 1800, with big valve 2L head shaved 20' and i get just under 10.5:1 CR.
In a 2L the 4mm dome pistons will give you what your looking for, even the smaller dome pistons with 20' off the head will take you close to 10:1

Good luck

Not back to square one... Do as Sportcoupe suggested: get the 8mm pistons from VAS and machine 4mm from them.

10-1 compression will run fine on the street, if you have ever read the spec's for vw's alot of the fwd vw motors run 10-1 with no obvious problems, as it comes that way from the factory

If it makes anyone feel any better about the pistons at VAS, then I will do a small chime in.
We put these pistons in an engine for a man very close to our shop with a 2L block and performance 1.8L head. No cams, no special exhaust (still has 4-1), no performance carb and the car ran great. I have driven the car personally several times and it runs great on 93 octane gas from the station around the corner from the shop. I hope this puts some of the questions to rest about what kind of pistons we sale. Oh and he put in new Champion Spark plugs. With iridium or platinum plugs we have seen some pre-detonation. If anyone has any question about the pistons we have feel free to call us and we will answer your questions.

Thanks
