Re: Building my engine
Didn't mean to rain on your parade, Jaime. Really sorry to sound so negative. The reason why I voiced my opinion was remembering the only thing that took away from Kevin's car was the bright blue paint peeling from the block. He has a perfect car and I know after all the time he spent on every little detail, this was extremely upsetting to him. Later, after you drive your car a while, you will also wish you used a more subtle color because of the road grime and possible leaks that will be more noticeable over time. I should know! I'm in the middle of disassembling my engine compartment right now to clean the dirt from oil spews and road grime. I will be polishing all that bling for hours!

None of the comments sounded negative. And I hope you all know that I am having a lot of fun with this.mdrburchette wrote:Didn't mean to rain on your parade, Jaime. Really sorry to sound so negative. Good to read all the responses and opinion. For example, I thought it was positve to do the light blue to be able to see any leaks. Now that you mention road grime and Kevin's engine paint peeling... well... keeping that block looking as good as in the photo is going to be a pita.
Here at home my son loves the dark blue and daughter the light blue. After a few of the comments I am more incline to go with the dark blue... even if it looks like a job done with a spray can in the driveway, hahahahahahaha.
Now, about that wrinkle paint...

Re: Building my engine
Not much done yesterday... I was finishing my motorcycle. Had the shop do a service with a complete carb clean/rebuild. I was treating the tank with a sealer/rust treatment to avoid any future damages to the fuel system (had some rust in the tank). Did not want to sell it without fixing that. Selling it to my cousing to fund the engine build costs.

Re: Building my engine
Done... all the handling by the shop will mess it up but I just needed something to fill the time while I get the rest of the parts
I will finish what ever little is left to clean. Plan is to order the parts needed for the short block (pistons, rings, flywheel, bearings, etc.) in the next two weeks. That way they can do the balancing, zero deck the block, etc. I still need to search for a good machine shop around where I live.

Jaime, give Rick from RML a call. He is in Daytona and works on Alfa's He might have clue about the machine shops in your area.I will finish what ever little is left to clean. Sold the motorcycle this weekend. Funds from that will go into the engine. Now waiting for $ from the sale. Updates as soon as I get the cash and order and get the parts. First buying the stuff needed to send it to the machine shop.ctbob wrote:Any update on the engine build?

Re: Building my engine
So the motor is put back together? I didn't read all of what you've done but did you upgrade from stock to something like Carillo Rods? Kinda pricey but with that kind of a set up, some cams, that super duper carb set up you have getting the redline to 9000 RPM shouldn't be all that difficult. Good luck, looking forward to posted progress
