Howdy ya'll
Howdy ya'll
Hey everyone. I'm not a Spider owner, but I am doing a lot of work to a friends '82, and I thought I would register for an account for the inevitable questions I have. The car is needing a bit of TLC in regard to the wiring as the PO never properly fixed some of the problems that crept up. Thanks to this site, I've been able to find pretty much everything I'm looking for.

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

We're from the DFW area. It's a fun little car to work on, with a few nuances. I REALLY enjoyed how much wire the center console puked out!
Hopefully, he'll let me convert the fuseblock to ATO eventually. I can see this one becoming problematic.

Welcome! You're in an area with plenty of Fiat support. Fiat wasn't shy about their wiring, were they? My 72 has thousands of feet shoved behind the console. I couldn't imagine how much a newer one would have! Good luck with figuring it all out.

Re: Howdy ya'll
So far, I've pulled all of the power window wiring out, in tact, just in case I've also pulled all of the factory runs to the speakers out too and replaced them with high quality stinger wire. The factory runs were hacked/crimped/hacked/crimped, and the console looked like it held about 3 improperly installed stereos.
I needed to make room for the stereo he wants, and actually had to sand the top edge of the opening ever so slightly to get the DIN mount to fit. The stereo stuff has all been add on. There were cutouts in the sidewall behind the map holder, and they were exposed to the elements. The speakers I pulled out have road salt all over the magnets, so that can't be good. I convinced my buddy to add some of those poly foam protectors to his order for the stereo stuff, and that so far seems like a very solid decision.
I've rewired the cig lighter with 14 gauge and put it on it's own fuse to constant, and I figured since I upgraded the wire, it can hold it's own as a power port, as well as the memory for the stereo. It's much happier now. Now I'm working on getting the hacked up ignition straight. Started tracing circuits out here and there, still finding things I don't like.

Hello Bacteam. The 72 1600 is only the very best every made. Most will agree but few will admit it.

Welp, the Spider has gone back to it's owner until the next round of work (fuse block upgrade and probably wiring speakers into a new back piece). I'm gonna miss it, but at least I don't have to worry about it shocking him with bare wire now. I'll post some highlight pictures of the repairs and stereo install in a few days once I take a little break.
