Re: Found water on the floor from ????
Have you checked the front fender wheel well liner where it seals against the fender. Some cars have these and some do not. My 78 has them and still I would get water if I drove through a big puddle. A lot of the 81s didn't have them and folks woukd get wet often and ther was a lot of front fender/rocker panel rot in those cases. Is the leak something you notice while driving or does it show up afterward? Is the wiring wet up under the dash? If so then I would go back to the cowl or windshield. At the bottom of the winshield there is a mastic joint where the whole windshield is mounted to the car. This can fail. Also check all of the mastic joints in the cowl area. Since there are multiple panels in there, there is a lot of seam sealer that can also be suspect as well. Let us know how the search goes

Re: Found water on the floor from ????
It rained yesterday and a little today so I went outside to check the car for leaks. There was a small amount of drips on the inside driver door below the vent window where it meets the door glass but not much. I did find the door sill plate very wet and the sill plate weatherstrip which is worn was soaked. Not sure how that happened with the car just sitting in the driveway unless somehow it runs down the door glass and through the door onto the rocker sill? The rubber between the door and glass looks nice and tight. No wind so rain isn't wind driver under the door. Maybe I should start with replacing the old weatherstrip on the sill plate? The carpet is wet along the driver rocker panel and moisture under the carpet in the same area. No water at all toward the center console, under the dash, or in the rear seat pan. It has to be somewhere at the door opening? The car is not being driven, just sitting in the driveway which has a slight slant so the front of the car is slightly uphill. The top is new and fits very well. Can the water run down the outside of the door and under it onto the rocker sill plate and then into the car even though the side to side of the driveway is level?
Re: Found water on the floor from ????
Like I said earlier, I had the same issue, water puddling on my passenger floor mat and the rocker carpet. I replaced the rubber plug at the top where the door glass and vent window meet and it fixed that problem. I also replaced the door weatherstripping as I had a bit of water coming in from the front edge of the drivers door.

I'll try that. I could not find any weatherstripping in IAP catalog. Guess I will need to check around. Re: Found water on the floor from ????
the door sill is exposed to the elements. water can enter from both the front and back thru the space between the door and the fenders. Your roll up glass trim is never completely tight. water can run down the inside of the door. There are drain holes in the bottom of the door that dumps this water on to the sill. This sill is slanted outward and the water should just drain from the gap under the door.

Ok, it rained last night and this morning and no water in the car. I wonder if it only leaked after I washed it? I know the door weatherstripping on the driver side at the rocker sill is really bad. Maybe it splashed up and into the floor?
Re: Found water on the floor from ????
Update,
I did find water dripping down the inside firewall on the driver side. I wiped it down and poured water into the cowl top panel vent to see if it was leaking there. No drips, I then noticed some small 1/4" to 1/2" very minor cracks in the seam sealer near the top area of the firewall and poured some water over it. Yep, dripped down the driver side floor. Not sure if that was the entire problem as I also need to replace the door seals but it's a start. I used some seal sealer to fill the small cracks.
