Hi. I'm Edward. I'm from West Lorne Ontario Canada. I have a 1980 spider. I purchased it from a prof. from the University of Western Ontario who had bought it in California. I paid $400.00 for it. I have gotten it on the road, but it does still need a lot of work.

$400 for something you've been able to get on the road is pretty good. You'll find all kinds of help here for most of your Fiat issues. Welcome to the site. Where is West Lorne in Ontario?

Welcome to the forum, from Ottawa. I thought I knew all the communities in this province (well almost), but West Lorne is a new one on me! My son is at Brock in St Catharines, not too far from you. Good luck with the car and enjoy! If you need any help, just call - we'll be here.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I'm going to get started one the bodywork this spring and just picked up a hardtop for it. Also got a lead on a locker (torsen) for the diff. Anyone know of any other places to get one? Thanks.

A torsen diff for the Spider? I'm not technical, but this was new stuff for me. Maybe you should tell us instead?

Yes that is the site I was looking at. Do you know anything about them. I also got in touch with a firm in Edmonton Alberta that I asked about them and am waiting for a reply.

I am no expert on lockers but I always ran one on my racing MGB's. They were called Detroit Lockers - and they were brutal - you could always feel them lock up and often would cause the rear end to move around during low speed tight corners. But they did the job and allowed me to the get the power down. For steet use, I am not really sure there is any real advantages - unless you drive in the snow or rain alot. For racing, something to lock up the rears is helpful.

Anyway, glad to have you on the site. I am restoring a '79 - converting to FI and making some changes to make the car more fun. It will be a summertime, weekend car. I have started a thread here: http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... 30&t=12451
