muffler and pipe rubber donuts

Post by kensmith »

I noticed my rubber muffler and exhaust pipe donuts are shot and the previous owner used bailing wire to hole everything in place. Can these rubber donuts be purchased at any muffler shop or local parts store? I know IAP has them but I hate paying for shipping as it ends up more than the parts cost. :(

the original hangers weren't donuts, they were more of an hour glass design that secures the muff from up or down movement. Donuts will only limit movement down. You're much better off with the original style

I only call them donuts because I'm old and that's what we use to call muffler hangers. They are still on the car but damaged and they do look like an hour glass shape. So only available through IAP?

That shows 79 through 83. I have a 78. But it looks the same?

They look right and are only $1.50 each BUT $15.00 shipping which is outrageous. Think I'll see what my local NAPA auto parts store can do.

wow....what a rip off. I wouldn't intentionally steer you wrong. I'll be sure to check the shipping options next time I make a recommendation.

I checked partsgeek.com and see they only want $7.50 for ground shipping, $2.63 for the part.

Let us know if you have any luck with NAPA.

Are we talking about the part 64174, for $4.50 each at IAP? Surely, even factoring shipping (and probably with some more bits you may need anyway), it's worth supporting a dedicated vendor? Just my .02.......

I would buy from them if I did need more parts. I tried to think of stuff I really need but at this time I just need the rubber hangers. I might just hold off to see what else I may need. I will also check my NAPA parts store to see if they can get them.

I agree that the shipping can be harsh. It would be great to have a pool of owners, like the NJ Fiat group, who are close enough and who see each other enough to be able to pool resources and ship larger orders together.

Meanwhile, I guess all there is to do is to buy stock in UPS :D

Did you pick up the muffler hangars yet? I have two new hourglass rubber mufler hangars that have been sitting in my parts box for about 11 years. They were ordered for an 83' that was sold and shipped before the parts arrived. Told the new owner i had them and they said not to worry about it. I now have an 82 with good hangars on the mufler. How does $10 including shipping sound? Folks have been good to me with parts. Pay it forward.
