Brake Booster

Post by kbee00 »

I didn't know which heading to put this topic and I didn't want to hijack the thread on brake booster repair -

So anyway - I am wondering if anyone has remove the brake booster and used an aftermarket master cylinder to help with the loss of vacuum boost. The reason I ask, is that I did this on my old MGB and it worked out great. Do doubt, increase in pedal pressure but the control was so much greater than stock it was worth it. And it simplified the system - and simple is always better in my humble book.....

Any advice? I've only owned one Fiat - my old Strada in college. And all I did was keep it running.....

Thanks for your help.

Thank your for the link. I pm'd you for additional help.

I couldn't really follow the thread to the point of understanding what was needed to make the conversion.

Maybe my brain is not functioning to well this evening...... :)

Sorry, I think I posted the wrong link, try this http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... ke+booster
There's a link in that thread to Mirafiori and that's where I got my info. I haven't really got to drive my car much, (I bought a new house and it has been in storage ever since), but Denise did the same conversion and is happy with the results.

We've done it on two cars: My 71 Spider that I drive on the street and my Lemons racer for the track. You can feel the difference since you have to apply a little more pressure to activate the brakes, but I'm 5' tall and it doesn't hinder driving in the least. You basically need the rod out of the booster that connects to the brake pedal, the mounting plate and you may have to make a little plate so the rod doesn't fall through the mounting plate.
