My recomendation is to contact your local parts suppliers. They should be able to help you with referals for your area. You should ask them about all the local shops and the reputations that they have. They know more about the local shops as they do busuiness with them daily. Then compile a small list and visit each of those shops to check them out for yourself. Quiz them on their knowlege of your vehicle. Make read some of the boards here so when you quiz those shops you will know what kind of techinical questions to ask in order to test the shops knowlege of your vehicle. Then make a decision for your self.

Referrals are my first resource when looking for service providers. Any other Fiat owners in your area? Alfa's? Next on the list would be vintage British owners and anybody with old RWD cars. If your Spider is 1980 or newer, the Bosch fuel injection system is well-understood by Volkswagen mechanics. Local auto shows, cars 'n coffees, etc. are where you could meet prospective referrals.
