32/36 DFEV Carb

Post by gjacobs101 »

Looking for advice.

I have a 77 spider with a header and original carb. I should have the money to get a 32/36 carb in the next few weeks. There is lots of information on the site on how to do the swap. I got a bit scared off when I called Weber Carbs Direct, they seemed to indicate that a lot of Fiat guys can't get this carb to work. Its seems like a simple job and I'm pretty handy. Have there been successes with this carb or should I be looking at something different for a carb? My current carb likely needs a rebuild, not sure if should look at a rebuild instead of an new one given what the guy at Weber Carbs Direct said. Don't want to waste my $$$.

Thanks
-George

it's not hard to make the dfev work, the trickiest part is adapting a ball stud onto the lever to connect your linkage. I've put on loads of these carbs

Yup I did it recently myself. Not hard at all. I had to bend the shaft into kid of a "Z" pattern. make sure to get the ball adapter. I used pierce manifolds, very happy!

George,
So Cal Mark sells carbs. He has the 32/36 made by EMPI which has all the parts as the weber. They interchange. The cost is much cheaper too! I bought one for my car.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I'll save my last $$$, and pick one up soon. It sure would be nice to get rid of most of the vac/return lines and hopefully get the car smoother running.

I'll need a carb spacer and "lunch box" air filter too right?

Thanks

What size spacer is needed for the 32/36 and where do I get them?

I thought for a dual plane manifold a spacer up to 1 1/2" was needed. All I can find are 1/2" (12 mm) spacers.

I generally use the 1/2 spacers. You could stack them if you want to go 1 1/2. Measure the thickness of your carb base

IAP also has carb spacers, two of them would get you about 1" http://www.international-auto.com/index ... id=3843808

Whats wrong with the origninal carb? The 32ADFA is a piece of cake to rebuild. The 32/36 only provides more power when the secondary throttle is opened as the primary barrels are the same. Most of your driving is on the primary.

I haven't had much luck rebuilding carbs, cars/lawnmowers etc. Sounded like a professional rebuild is roughly the cost of a new carb so figured new is the best way to go. Getting rid of the vacumn hoses is an added bonus. Maybe I will try to rebuild the ADFA at some other time.

Thanks for help folks

Why is the spacer necessary?
