that's like asking if apples are better than oranges. Without any details such as tube diameter, length, etc it's a useless discussion

As Mark stated you can be wasting your money if your not going to be upgrading your complete system. Nothing wrong with cast manifolds and they produce a bit less heat then the headers do too. Also what year is the car as it may be illegal to install and you may not pass smog in your county.

i have a 78 with the 1800 motor-- 4 into 1 exh manifold== historic tags so i pulled all emissions and have a 2" exhaust with a performance muffler

=i read a couple times that the 421 is much better and good for 10hp -- just wondering if it will bolt up and fit

Yes the 4-2-1 is a good upgrade, something I am looking to do myself.

the exhaust flange gaskets are all the same except for 79 2L. I seriously doubt you will find 10hp swapping stock manifolds around

Can any one tell me if the bolt patern on a early ( like 1976) 4-2 cast manifold is the same as the 4-1 manifold on my 1980 Spider?
I know my Spider has an extra bolt for a water outlet, but are the rest of the holes and port location the same.
I picked up this early manifold really cheap, thought I could make an aluminum plate adapter to go inbetween the manifold and head to block off the water jacket.

I assume you're asking about the intake flange and not the exhaust flange?
