Hi all,
I know this is a tricky question to pose here, but I was wondering if there are any "baby TC" faithfulls around here. I drive my 1438 Spider on a regular basis (I usually just skip rainy days as the top is getting very old).
One niggle that I'd love to sort is the fuel consumption as I get very low mpg from it. In days gone by I replaced the original 34 DHS with a 34 DMS (basically the same design but with a mechanical secondary rather than vacuum-operated). Performance is not brilliant but it does go well for such a tiny engine, even if I suspect it may be a bit over-jetted for this small engine (it sometimes falters when pushed, doesn't seem to like the secondary much).
Is there a better carb option for this engine? Or should I rejet this one? I'm not sure of the jetting it has, but it's the stock setup for the 1756 european engine (118 hp). I'd like to retain the responsiveness of the engine, maybe even improve it if there's room for that, but above all I'd like to improve the fuel consumption.
All opinions welcome (but please don't suggest I ditch this engine for a bigger one, I love it!).

Maybe a 28/36 DHSA? They were stock on the 1438 and 1608 US versions.

That has a 28mm primary and 36 secondary? Am I right?
Won't the 28 mm be much of a strangled intake for the engine?
The US 1438's had that 28/36 from the beginning or was there a 34 mm version of the DHSA? (the "A" on DHSA or DMSA I assume means "America" as only the US versions had these, they were modified versions of the DHS and DMS fitted elsewhere)
The European engines had the 34 DHS on the 1438 (both barrels were 34 mm). This was the carb on mine when I got it, it looked a bit past it so I got the DMS on it (that one was as good as new). I've got a good DHS now from another engine, do you think it'll be better suited?
