New convertible top replacement

Post by kensmith »

I have a 1978 124 Spider and need to replace the convertible top. Is it difficult to do? What do upholstery shops charge to replace the old with the new? Thanks!

Can be done in a day with patience. Glue the strips of cloth to the frame can be a pain. No too hard a job though. Probably about 160.00-200.00 to have a shop do it.

Where abouts are you?
I sold an extra top I had to a young fellow with a 79. He had the old one off and new one installed in about 6 hours. He had never done this before but is handy... have to be with a kinda tired 79 but he's bringing the car back from the brink.

2 estimates so far. One for $450 and the other for $375. I only paid about $180 for the new top. Cost to install 2 to 3 times the material cost? Seems way too high. I will keep searching.
