learn something new

Post by puddin »

i have a 78 and pulled out all emissions stuff changes to a hi perf air filter and didn't know what to do with the pvc line. so i put a pvc valve in the tube and ran a 5/16 vac line to the int manifold. wow -- noticed that it was sucking so hard that the oil fill cap was hard to get off. and noticed a 10-20 psi drop in oil press. -- guess i'll just punch a hole in the chrome air cleaner and let blow by in the carb.. any better ideas.

I've gone around and around with this, trying to install a modern pcv system - I've been told to leave well enough alone and at this point, I have to agree. You would really need to install the pcv valve into one of the valve covers and partially baffled as well, then connect into manifold vacuum. And I don't think there is an area of the valve cover that would offer adequate clearance from the cam.

If you can't vent it to the air cleaner, why don't you just install a breather for it? You'll probably want to use a shorter hose.

yup best way was to punch a hole in the air cleaner and let her blow.

also noticed oil press is still kinda low 20 psi at idle-- not sure if the oil filter has something to do with that, i change the oil two weeks ago and used a fram filter and noticed the oil press was lower. less resistive i guess also used penzoil instead of catrol gtx. weird huh.

Nothing wrong with 20lbs oil pressure at idle. FIlter would not cause pressure drop. Probably a little difference viscosity. Wouldn't worry bout it.

could be oil 10w 40 castrol gtx had 40-50 psi now penzoil 10w40 has 20 psi -- thought colder weather would increase press. since fluid is thicker... i dunna know

The filter could be the culprit. I had a problem with low oil pressure after changing the oil in one of my daily drivers. I replaced the oil filter and problem solved.
If the oil pressure light doesn't come on, you should be good to go though.

i pulled the oil switch and put in a sun oil press gauge for $25-- had 50psi and watched it drop after 4 months of daily driving hope the pump is going... i highly reccomend the press guage -- for $25 the idiot light isn't going to save your motor.
