emissions for a 79 2000
emissions for a 79 2000
what emissions came with the 79 Spider 2000 from the factory ? A pic of a 79 engine compartment would be helpful. I see a blk cannister on drivers side wheelwell that goes into carb in two places. I assume a pvc somewheres. But I have 3 lines on my carb plugged off that I am afraid is some sort of equipment that has been removed. I also removed my gas tank anf there is 3 lines that go into a single line with an orange unit in between. Is that part of it too ? I feel like there should be something on the passenger side of the engine compartment, opposite side of the carb area. ...

evaporative system that stores vapors from the tank and carb
air injection system
egr system
catalytic converter
closed crankcase ventilation system
79 had a myriad of thermo vacuum switches to control all the systems

Re: emissions for a 79 2000
I have:
evap system (driver side wheelwell)
cat converter
I don't know if I have the EGR (where ) or the Air Injection (where) and myriad is a scary word. I assume that the three tapered off carb lines have to to something with the thermo vacuum switches.
With this said, to get my car to pass state of az emissions, I will have to have ALL the above ? You sent me a link to a supplier, I assume they carry some of these parts I may need...

Re: emissions for a 79 2000
it would be helpful if you could take pics of your engine. The air pump system mounts on the right side of the engine, the right fenderwell and connects to check valves in the middle of the head. The egr is on the front of the intake, just ahead of the carb. The thermo switches mount on the rear of the intake. You should also have a hot air hose from the air cleaner to the exhaust shield. The evap cannister should be connected to both the carb and the vapor separator in the trunk

Re: emissions for a 79 2000
Are you planning on using this as a daily driver?
Arizona does not require emissions if the car is registered as a collector vehicle.
You have to obtain collector insurance, about $125 to $150 a year from some place like Hagerty.
You give the replacement value to the insurance, say $10,000, and if the vehicle is totaled they send you a check for that amount. While none of us want to pollute the air on purpose, this may be an alternative for you if the emissions are going to be hard to meet and the car will be a weekend driver.

Check out the following: http://www.spiderroadster.com/
They have images of everything you will need. Very helpful site.
One word of advice. Buy a LOT of vacum hose. I have a 79 2000 that the previous owner had removed all the emissions stuff. Here in Portland we have to do the DEQ thing. I had to replace all that stuff and this site helped me out a LOT.
Oh yea the vacum hose. 24 feet of hose later I was finished.

Thanks all for your valuable input. I don't have a cannister in the trunk as I have taken fuel tank out and I had a total of 5 hoses and 2 elec connections plus the filler hose. no box to be seen. But , no its not a daily driver, so I will prob go that route. I did that 13 yrs ago in Vegas with my 66 mustang.
