Will an 84 rear end fit a 1980?

Just enough changes between pininfarina and fiat to make me wonder. Talking about the entire rear end including axles.

From what I can tell it should still be a 3.9:1 if it is from a 5 speed. Apparently the axle diameter is different but I assume that shouldn't matter if the entire assembly is replaced including axles? Will it bolt right in or not?

As long as you have axles and all it's the same, well it's not the same, but it will fit as if it were the same. It's the axel shafts that are different. The '84 is supposidly better. I have the newer rear in my '79 spider and it was a simple bolt in.
