Carb, Fuel Pump and Gas Pedal Questions

Post by az79spider »

I have a 1979 spider 2000. manufacture date of march 1979. Carberetted. What Carb do I have so I can remove and order rebuild kit. Also when I attempt to depress the gas pedal it goes maybe 1/2 inch and then seem "stuck" this car is a 5 yr sitter. Suggestions ? Lastly, it has a mechanical fuel pump. Its easier for me to just stick witht the purchasr of a new one ? Advise.

Ralph, there are numbers on the side of the carb that indicate the type. I believe if you do a search here on the forum there is a topic for that, or you can contact one of the vendors and they can help as well once you have the number.

the sticking of the gas pedal could be related to the carb or the spring under the dash attached to the pedal (weak spring or none at all)

As far a s the fuel pump is concerned - do you currently have fuel pressure to the carb? If so what is the pressure? having a mechanical fuel pump in not necessarily a bad thing.

If the car has been sitting for five years with fuel in the tank it could have turned in to a laqeur and be blocking the fuel sending unit intake. You will need to flush the gas tank and install a new fuel filter if that is the case.

Sounds like we need a little moire information to properly point you in a particular direction.
