Hey guys,
I have a fuel line leak along the drivers side foot area. Just where my foot rests while driving. I'm planning on replacing the entire fuel supply system as I belive it is original(cloth covered fuel hoses). What are folks using to replace the original fuel lines. I've looked at the replacement kits that are sold and would like to get an idea if anyone thinks this is the way to go however they don't appear to include the hard pipe line that is leaking. I see that the hose is 8mm in some places and would like to understand if the hard line is also 8mm line. Would also like to understand if anyone has upgraded to stainless or if they have a good source for what they have used.
The line I'm talking about is shown in the attached picture I pulled off the internet.
Thanks

Re: Fuel Line leak
Hi,
I had the same problem in my 1979. However, I have a mechanical pump that draws fuel from the engine. My original line was malable steel (no coating). The guys at Gus & Aldophs in Cleveland, plus a few mechanics that were waiting for parts, mentioned that they all used soft copper lines for replacement fuel lines. The store helped with putting in the flares at both ends also. It was easy to install around all the floor bends and it was al less than $20.
Good luck.

Re: Fuel Line leak
i used local auto parts store Carquest actually they had Long lines and they are coated simple to bend and i matched my existing lines which helped make the process simple out and in 1.5hrs.
Re: Fuel Line leak
I HAD A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS -- THIS IS THE ONLY CAR I EVER OWNED THAT HAD FUEL LINES GOING INTO THE INTERIOR OF A CAR. I HAD A FUEL LEAK NEXT TO THE DRIVERS SEAT THAT TOOK A WEEK TO FIND AFTER I SMOKED IN THE CAR FOR ABOUT ONE HUNDRED MILES.
I REPLACED THE ENTIRE FUEL LINE WITH STEEL TUBING AND HAVE AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP IN THE TRUCK -- I USED 5/16 AND3/8 TUBING AND HOSE. AT MOST ABOUT $100 AND ALOT OF PIECE OF MIND

Re: Fuel Line leak
I'd advise against using copper, it reacts with gasoline. You can buy steel line with flared fittings on the end in various lengths or buy aluminum tubing so it won't rust
Re: Fuel Line leak
I had this same exact problem with my 77, thankfully no fire. I replaced all the line with 5/16 and 3/8 as some else mentioned. Make sure to look at all the line, I fixed mine back to the drivers seat to find another leak in the passenger section. All the rubber floor mats were destroyed too. Pretty easy job, although I sweated trying to find the proper flanging tools. In the end I used super gummy, gas proof Permatex (think thats the name) and no flange. Using english to metric hose made the metal hose fit nice and snug and have not had any leak issues. I have a carb system so no high pressure in the fuel lines.
