Fuel pump/fuel line questions

I know - yet another newbie, asking about fuel supply issues....
I just want to get a feeling from other FI Spider owners as to the likelihood of having to replace the fuel pump on my '84 that has been sitting, with bad gas in it.
It cranks wonderfully (new battery) but will not fire (no fuel).
What I want to do is to clean out the tank and pre-pump lines as best as I can, change the filter, test the pump with a container of fresh gas and some hose, see if I can knock out any crud, and if all looks ok, give it another go with fresh gas in the tank.

Is it worth bothering with the old pump, or is it usually suspect enough to just go ahead and replace, especially if one is not fond of sputtering to a stop on the side of the road when out for a long drive some time next spring.

Any thoughts, general insight, and helpful tips would be welcome.

No need to replace that fuel pump unless it really is bad. My experience with my '82 leads me to beleive that they either work or they don't. The pump itself will not be intermittent. When I had problems it ended up being debris in the tank clogging up the system from time to time. Eventually, my pump did fail after sucking up too much junk and needed to be replaced. Intermittent fuel delivery to the fuel rail would lead me to suspect bad wiring, dual relay issues, or a bad ground.

BTW, when I replaced my pump I went with the $100 dollar option of an Airtex pump from Auto Zone and have been very pleased for a couple of years now.

OK - I pulled the pump today, and tested it with a 12V source, with hoses hooked up to inlet outlet sides, so I could circulate fresh gas through the pump, assuming it would pump.

I got absolutely nothing when I hooked up the pump leads to pos/neg, direct from the battery. Have I missed some neat little trick about how to test these pumps, or is the pump just dead, no two ways about it?

If the pump does not run at the battery then is dead. Should run either way it is hooked up. Ebay has a pump for 75.00 to try before a new 200.00 Bosch is used. LOL. Be sure you check for more debris in the tank. I have a pressure problem now that leaves me stranded time to time.
