Is removing the pipe a better idea? I wonder if I could find a plug though to fit the hole left by the pipe in the manifold?

If you're going to re-attach the breather hose to the air cleaner, order one of these, too. It goes inside that hose.
This prevents a backfire from igniting crankcase vapors.

What happens to the breather hose if you don't use the stock air cleaner and install one of the box types? Do they have a port for the hose or do you have to fabricate something? Or what are the alternative hookups for the breather?

I decided not to remove the pipe as it didn't want to budge after liberal amounts of wd-40, so I sandwiched the steel plate between the pipe flange and the head.

Another thing, should I use any gasket sealer on the new intake manifold gasket?

I would, especially around the water ports. And don't use rtv

I would suggest Permatex Hi-Tack

Does anyone know how this vacuum port comes off? It has a allen head fitting but won't turn. Thinking about just cutting it off with my dremel.
