Idle Solenoid cleaning

Post by 74SpyderGates »

Hello,

Is it a good idea to remove idle solenoid and clean the part that is in the carb, by doing this will it effect the O ring washer. And when testing it for the clicking sound I would guess you can do it without starting the engine as long as the ignition key is turned to give it power?

Pls Ack
Tks in advance.

Gates....

I would not remove and/or clean unless you know it is sticking.
With Key On, Engine Off (KOEO) soleniod should click as wire is connected and disconected.
If your car idles, soleniod is OK

Are you having an issue with the car?

I recently removed my solenod to get access to the idle jet. The jet had a tiny piece of grit stuck in it (but it wasn't completely blocked), which didn't seriously affect idle but did cause the odd stumble on acceleration. Cleaning it solved the problem (and I'd already cleaned the accelerator pump nozzle).
