Generally youll paint a black guide coat over the entire body, not covered just a mist then re sand with your boards and hand sanding pads, never by just your hands and sandpaper. Id make sure you go in steps from 120 up to around 400 to remove all the sanding marks before painting. The remaining black spots will show your low spots that need attention.

Yeah I've read up on some of the do's and don'ts. I have sanding blocks. I like the flexible one especially. I was told to use 180- 400 to get to the next step of checking the body and respraying more epoxy before paint. And I have dry coat.

Another tip is to use a thin soft cloth like a tee towel under a flattened palm to wipe the car rather than your bare hand when you're trying to feel for any waves. The cloth eliminates the surface finish texture you'd fell with your bare hand so you can concentrate on feeling for waves.
Hope that made sense....

I have to say I'm getting pretty good with the gun. Here's a couple pic's. Tomorrow I'll put the high build primer on this stuff. It's kind of hard to tell but you can see the shaved door handle on the second pic on the far side. Up front is the trunk. :P

Here is a pic of my paint booth within my garage. It's about 20'x 16' and the garage is 24x32.
I got several coats of high build on the doors, trunk, hood, and wiper cowl. Here's some pic's. Here's what the doors will look like without the handles. And the hood without emblems. Next is block sanding to make sure the body work is dead on. It feels pretty good to see it come together. In the one pic you can see the rim I'm going to use as a spare. It isn't finished yet. :P

looking good Brady! Bodywork has got to be my least favorite task, so tedious! I enjoy the actual spraying......as long as everything goes right, or at least close to it. It's so exciting to see the car come to life with color on it! Can't wait to see it painted.

Thanks! :P
You know it is so easy to spray on top of a different color. It gets much harder once your repeating the same color. when I spray the color, at least I'll have more time to take my time unlike high build primer. Didn't you spray your car in your back yard? I remember seeing a post of someone doing that when I first joined the site. Seeing that motivated me to get started on mine.

Here's the colors I've chosen. Meteorite silver. It has copper in it and looks much better than the pic. The copper changes the look with different angles.

Ya, the backyard job was mine  . Your car is going to look awsome and you won't have to figure out which car is yours when you go to FIAT events like us with red cars! Make sure you have lots of light, especially when you get to the Clear coat! The great thing about the base/clear is that you can cut and buff to remove most imperfections.

That is why I am going with British Racing green as the base color. I am going to add a dark emerald green pearl to the clear coat. A very anti-Italian car color. I will add I am not anti-Italian or prejudice in any way, shape, or form... LOL

This is an AWESOME thread!

I must say your wife is pretty open minded about you spending so much of your personal free time pampering the body of some 32 year old Italian babe...

 Thanks. I never thought of it that way. You got us laughing.
It will be painted within the month. It's going to the paint shop as soon as I block it out.

Well, I have the final primer on. I still have to do the trunk, hood, wiper cowl, and doors tomorrow.
Here's some pic's. I will block sand this and then take it to the paint shop.

Looking great! You could just put a satin finish on her and Rat Rod it out with some flames :)
