Dipstick for a 74 spider

Post by Adam »

Hey guys,

Anyone else with a 74 have a dipstick that looks like this. Mine seems to be leaking, even with a new dipstick seal. Maybe I am missing something?

Peter's 78 has a long tube and bracket that extends the dipstick to the top of the engine.

Thanks,

Adam

That looks like one to the earlier engines, maybe a 1608? This is the best pic I could find of the dipstick on my 1608:

Adam,

That doesn't look like a leaky dipstick to me. It looks like a leaky cyclonic trap (that small 90 degree right above your dipstick).

The short hose was leaking but I have since replaced it. The block is dry, all be it oil stained with the exception of the dipstick seal. I was beside Peter's 78 and he has a dipstick tube that runs to the top of the head. Thought maybe I had a PO made dipstick.

My '74 is like that, too.
I'd also like to eventually get a more full-size dipstick/housing that bolts closer to the top of the intake.

You guys need to source a dip stick setup from a 2 liter.

Sorry Rey, you know I'm just a wallflower and don't like to show off. It's the best pics I had of my dipstick!
The top plate came with a set of 13/15's. They're special since they have Fiat 1608 on the top. Don't know where they were made or who made them.

At the recommendation of Avlon, I put some heat shrink tube under the rubber stopper and that did the trick.
