Crankcase Breather Element

Post by 74SpyderGates »

Hello,

When the air filter gets changed to a K&N box. what happens to the Crankcase Breather Element. Does the car still need one to properly function? It seems that I have 2 hoses that are blocked. they look like they led to the original air filter box.
Does anyone know how to attach a picture to a text. It would be easier if I can show pics of what I'm talking about.

I believe that the car needs a crankcase breather to allow built up pressure to escape from below. Mine is located on the side of the block, just above the fuel pump, with a hose that is about 5/8 inch that attaches to the air cleaner. The fumes are sucked back into the air cleaner to be reburned.

if your car is a carbed 79 or 80, I suspect the two hoses you're asking about are the air injection hoses in the top of the cylinder head. Those aren't crankcase breathers

My car is a 1976. I believe when the prevoius owner removed the original filter box and replaced it with a K&N filter directly over the Carb. I believe they refer to it, as a lunch box air filter.

Those anyone know how to attach a picture when sending a text. This will help me explain my problem.

Set up a free Photobucket account, upload your photos there, and then click on the "Img" button when you are typing a post (above the text area), and insert the direct Photobucket link to your photo inside the Img brackets. Size your original photos so they are not too big for online viewing.
