Brake Booster?

Post by dankinny »

'80 Spider 2000 dies when applying brakes. Hear vacuum leak. Want another opinion before I spend time and money on new booster.

check all the vacuum hoses first. the booster failing is a remote thing.

rubber hoses deteriorating and failing is a very real, everyday occurance.

and almost as common are the hoses accidently coming off their fittings when we stick our gorilla arms in the engine bay for maintenance on totally unrelated items.

I don't hear the vac leak in the engine compartment, only under the dash while depressing the brake pedal.
Idles and runs fine as long as brake pedal is not depressed.

all you have to do is clamp the hose to the brake booster, it will either change the rpm, or step on the brake and you'll know for sure, no guessing, better.booster, not cheap.

Thanks for all your input. New booster cured it. You were right it wasn't cheap.

Hi. I'm experiencing the same problem with my 80 spider. A used booster from ebay for $65 is on the way. Any problems or advise changing out the old? I know the master cylinder needs removed and access under the dash is a must. Any help would be appreciated. Nick
