Oil dripping from distributor onto exhaust manifold

Need help quickly. I have oil dripping from my distributor onto the hot exhaust manifold and causing smoke. I have an Italian car rally to go to tomorrow and I don't want the wife to complain about smelling oily. Not to mention the embarrasing smoke coming from under the hood at stop signs. I took the dist. cap off and noticed oil welling up where it shouldn't be. What can cause that? Is there a gasket of some sort under the distributor?

there is a seal in the lower dist housing, You have to remove the dist, remove the drive gear to replace the seal. The pin holding the gear on can be a challenge if it hasn't been removed before
