My 1978 124 Spider 2 bbl Weber won't idle without choke on.
The dwell, timing and spark, all good. I checked for air leaks, none. I tried to adjust the idle fuel mixture, the needle cause no change, so it appears to be running off some circuit other than the idle circuit but the throttle plate appears to be fully closed. I removed the needle valve and blew in 40 lb air pressure, air exited up through the carb barrel so the air/fuel bleed appears to be ok on one side. What esle can I try?

Re: Won't idle
Turn the key to the on position. Remove the wire going to the idle stop solenoid, then re-attach/touch the wire to the terminal. If you can hear a click then the solenoid is working, if you don't hear a click then its not and should be replaced.
Re: Won't idle
And without that soleniod energized, blowing thru from the needle will NOT clean all the passages. Key needs to be "on" before blowing thru, or soleniod plunger will be blocking the fuel passage.
Re: Won't idle
Manoa Matt, great job remote trouble shooting, that was it, the soleniod was stuck. I sprayed the valve/jet with solvent, let it soak and it began to rattle when I shook it. I reinstalled it, started the engine and it dropped into an smooth 800 rpm idle. Thank again!
