New member owner 1982 spider

Post by Joost »

Hi there,
my name is Joost Munsterhuis, from the Netherlands.
2 weeks ago I bought a 1982 spider in reasonable good shape.
Engine is ok and also bodywork is good, some rust located near the wheks in the back and at the trunck at the Fiat-logo.
At this moment it is in the workshop to fit some seatbelds in the back for my 2 doughters.

I noticed that both windows do noet completely fit in the softtop.
Anyone in this forum familair with this? Can it easily be adjusted by removing interior trim of the door?

as soon as the car is back I'll try to get some pics....

Thanks for your support!

Hello Joost, and Welcome. REAL Fiat drivers never put the windows up :D

Are you talking about the rear quarter windows, or the roll-up side windows?

Welcome Joost. Congratulations on the new find.
I have 2 1982s now. As Bernie says, we'd like to see a picture of your window-to-convertible fit to see if it is typical or not.
Lots of help on this site. Great people here

It is the roll up side windows, both left and right, just 1,5cm are "missing" height.
Perhaps it could also have to do with the softtop?!

Your side windows should roll up to the top of the weatherstrip channel, only 2-3mm from the top edge of the vent window frame. If they are up to the limit of the channel, you should have a weatherproof (OK :? "weather-resistant") joint, due to a 50mm wide "flap" or "curtain" (part of the convertible top) that extends down. Sorry I don't have a photo, my top is shot :|

You picked the best year for the Spider :D I can't help regarding the top. I have only had the top up once and as I recall the windows were down. I would love to see photos.
