oil pressure
when I turn key to on position, red light on oil gauge comes on, when I start the vehicle it goes out. When car is running, there is no movement of the gauge needle. I have heard if the light comes on and goes out at starting oil pressure is ok. Is that a good rule to follow? Other than the oil sending unit, which I will replace, is there an issue if the light sensor is working? Thank you.
Re: oil pressure
that's exactly how the warning light should work if you have oil pressure. The problem with relying solely on the light is that it goes out with about 5lbs of pressure.
Take the wire off the sending unit for the gauge and ground it with the key on. If the gauge now reads at the very highest reading, replace the sending unit

Thanks Mark, that is exactly what the problem was, ordered new sensor unit. One more issue crossed off the list.
