Fuel Pump (s)?

I have a stupid question I'm sure to you veterans. Anyway I have an electric fuel pump in the trunk, and I also have a fuel pump on the block...
Is this correct or should I just have one. The car is a 76 carbed model.
Can not get it to run right. Runs good for 10 minutes then shuts off..Weird.

it should work with 2 pumps, if both pumps are good. I ran my 76 for years with both pumps. Once the mechanical pump started leaking I bypassed it and now just use the electric
