Fuel Filter...

Post by DUCeditor »

A couple of quick questions.

1) I have been told that my `77 has three fuel filters. I replaced the the one in the trunk that goes in the line between the tank and the electric fuel pump as well as the one that goes in line leading to the carb, but I cannot find a third one supposedly somewhere on the return line. Can someone tell me whether the info I was given about there being three is correct? If so where would I find the third filter?

2) I ordered replacements from IAP. The ones they sent are clear plastic with a viewable filter element - an advantage I suppose because one can see when it is obviously getting filled with dirt and junk. Has anyone had a problem with these? Not theoretical (there are always a lot of opinions on every subject), but an actual problem? Gas leaks in the engine bay or the trunk can become unpleasant very quickly.

1.) The third filter is actually the first in the stream; it is a fine mesh sock covering the pickup tube in the tank. Usually a part of and replaced with the sending/pickup unit.

2.) Clear plastic is no problem. Very low pressure in carb'd engines.

there is also a filter in the inlet to the carb. It's under the large brass nut right at the inlet.
