If the belt is 2 teeth longer than correct, provided the tensioner can accommodate the slightly increased length of belt it shouldn't make any difference, should it?
The 148 tooth belt is longer than the 146 tooth belt, to account for a taller engine block. The tensioner is not capable of handling the difference in length between the two.

lamborghinikid wrote:OK I'm with you on possibly the cams being switched at this point anything is possible,, I am not sure about what you mean on the timing marks at 12 o'clock do you mean the lobes should point straight up because there are only the 1 set of holes on the cam wheels. The manul I have is for up to 78 it says put the lobes at 12 o'clock slightly pointing toward each other, but this gives me no marks to go with... because the holes are at the bottom. Is there light at the end of the tunnel well at least I got good compression even if the marks were not in the correct place.... Thanks for the help I'm sure if you guys were here it would take you about 5 minutes to figure this one out.. I am trying to eliminate parts of this puzzle but having a hard time doing so...
The cam pulley is clocked to the camshaft with a dowel pin, not to be confused with the timing mark. The hole for the dowel pin may be hidden by the washer under the bolt that holds the cam pulley to the camshaft, but if you look closely, you may see the dowel pin hole. Anyway, with the bolt removed (which you will have to do to exchange the pulleys), you will certainly see the dowel pin holes. If you hold the pulley so that the dowel pin hole is straight up, then the timing mark hole should be pointed inboard toward the center of the engine. With this information in hand, you can properly identify the pulleys whether they have a flange or not, and whether they have stamped markings or not.

with the help of Ace we found the cam gears were switched the car ran when I got it I gust didn't drive it anywhere so I didn't know how bad the performance was. It still isn't running great but thats in the tuning I am sure I'll get it right now. I also have a small oil leak on the exhaust side from the cam housing,, I really appreciate the help if it wasn't for Ace and him calling me to give instruction it would still be a parts car.... :D

This car has plenty of power I can't seem to get the idle down its around 1300 and kind of pulsey it runs 60 mph at around 2900 on the tack. The customizing has started I have a straight shifter just like in a Ferrari 308 I'm going to have the stainless plate for the gate lazer cut and engraved I'll get a pic posted tomorrow of the shifter it was simple to build and its stainless... I'm getting dual carbs and you know whos exhaust first of the year, Moneys tight the prova is eating my car stash, but I have plans for the spider... Any ideas on getting the idle down? I used a timing light and took the vac off the dist. and connected it to a vac and turned the dist until I thought it was 10 deg in front of the TDC the mark was pulsey but only with in maybe 1/4 inch movement or less but you can kinda hear the engine pulsing very little at idle. while this is happing the vac is around 15 psi tighten up the dist hook up the vac advance and it sits at around 1300 to 1500... But Hey it friggin runs

BTW, I can't take credit for the cam pulleys being switched -- it was Mark who first made the suggestion. Glad to hear that resolved the problem.

As far as idle speed goes, did you adjust the idle screw on the carburetor? You should be able to thread it in or out to adjust the idle speed lower or higher. If it is not the culprit, how about the throttle linkage? Does it allow the carburetor throttle plate to close all the way (not the choke plate, but the throttle plate, down inside the carb)?

is the choke opening fully? Is the fast idle speed set properly?

I think the choke is opening correct I don't know where the fast idle is located?

Hallo LK,

Glad to see you've got it going at last. If the fast idle is where I think it is it's bloody awful to adjust.

The filter is best off for this as it is adjusted from the cam box side of the carb, a screw bearing on the lever which is attached to the cable. Thre's a little spring loaded screw that you adjust back or forward. I had to use a 1/4" universal with a small screwdriver socket on to adjust it, same as the idling mixture screw (mines similar I think - 34 adf). I had just the same fast idle as you, about 1300rpm. I backed the fast idle fully off and got the engine running as best as I could with the mixture screw and then took the fast idle back up until I had a sweet 800 to 1000rpm. That was the only good think about the 28/32 emissions carb that I replaced - at least all the adjusters were on the right side of the carb. I hope that this helps.

the other possibility is the stop screw on the secondary is misadjusted, holding the secondary throttle open slightly

I've got the idle down to a grand by retarding the dist. and I've got the idle screw all the way out to where it isn't touching also I have the throttle cable adjusted all the way in as far as it will go I will check tomorrow to see if the secondary is open at all while idling. I will get a pic of the carb and trick shifter,, I was getting a lot of heat and noise from the tranny I just got the rubber boot with foam on it from International.. that did the trick. I changed the front shocks this weekend and did a 98 mile poker run with the wife on the Harleys. I get yelled at by the wife because I'd rather be working on the cars than riding we missed all the other rides the club had this year,, I look at it this way I can ride all day drink beer and get nothing done or I can work on the car drink beer and get something done,, although there is a curb of how much you can drink and how much you really get done.. Theres less of a curb if you drink Cokes.. If I go to dual carbs this spring how much trouble will this be and what are the pros and conns ? When you order the dual carbs and intake does it come with the idiots guide to installation ? This engine with the switched cam gears I found out was just rebuilt by a professional.. and the owner gave up because it wouldn't run right,, and all because the cams gears were switched.. Now I have the original engine to play with, 8) I was going to order Guy Croft's book on high performance has anyone read this is it a good source and are there any video or DVDs out there for Fiat high performance rebuild or even rebuild? 8)
