Just joined in anticipation of buying a Spider. I live just North of Salt Lake City, UT and have my eye on a blue 1975. The forum has been an invaluable asset. Hopefully I have it within a week.
Thanks,
Derek

Hello Derek and welcome.
You can search several threads here about pre-purchase inspection. Good Luck! and let us know how you made out.

Re: New member
Derek, the weekend is almost here. Are you still going to buy it this weekend?
Re: New member
I hope so, depending on whether or not I can get it inspected first. I couldn't find any posts that cover pre-purchase inspection, If you could point me in the right direction that would be helpful. The seller has been trying to sell it for quite a while, and recently dropped the asking price.
The newest listing is missing all but one picture, but I pulled them off before hand.

Hi Derek. I hope it's not too late for your pre-purchase inspection. There is a very comprensive write-up by the Fiat gurus on what to look for and particular features of the car at this mirafiori link:

The most important piece of advice is watch out for the rust - visible and camouflaged. Mechanical, interior and other non-body parts are generally available thru vendors and salvage shops and are quite affordable. Let us know if you have any other questions. By the way, it looks looks really good car. Keep us posted. Good luck, JamesG

I finally got around to looking at the spider today, it has a few problems. There is a part of the left quarter panel missing, it is in the trunk and must have been knocked off. (this isn't the actual car, but shows what part came off. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_5 ... directlink
The radiator overflow nipple was glued back on, and the timing belt has apparently never been changed. The seller won't go less than 3K, is this a good deal? I can take care of the bodywork and timing belt with the help of my buddy (might require repaint) ,wish it didn't have these problems. But it is a garage kept, one owner car.
Thanks,
Derek

The car looks to be in very good shape. If it runs and shifts well, it should be worth the $3k the guy is asking.
