I thought I would use some spray primer to cover the bare metal so the car wouldn't rust. What a mistake. I now have to sand the area where I put it. If I didn't, it would make the paint peel off. I used black and the epoxy I used was black. Now I can't tell if I got the primer off or not. SO, unless you plan on painting your whole car with can. Don't use it. All day and I got this much done. This is the hardest part though.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have about 7 cans of red rustoleum primer that I've been mightily tempted to use on all that bare metal, too. Whenever I sweat, which is unavoidable in the summer, it leaves rust spots where it drips on the car. Or when my garage door opens after it rains, it drips on the car, and those areas eventually have gotten rusty. I knew I shouldn't use that primer, but I was close to doing it, anyway, until I get all the rest done... I'm glad I didn't, and I think I'm just going to use my old car cover for the car when I'm not working on it.
I'll be buying the cheap 49.00 hvlp gun at HF pretty soon, then I can find compatible primer and just use that gun.

I was hoping this mistake would be helpful for someone else. It took me about 8 hours to do the back half which was most of it. Not counting the trunk lid or inside the trunk. Thankfully I didn't spray in there. I'm going to just keep going with the blocking until the whole car is blocked. Like I said before. The pain in the thing was making sure I got it all since the primer and the epoxy was the same color.
I'll find out tomorrow what I should put on next. The Epoxy or just go to the high build. I'll let you know. To shoot the high build primer, you need a 2.0mm gun. It's like shooting on body filler. Sounds messy and you don't have too much time to waste. It will harden in your gun. You should mix 1Qt at a time. You have to clean out the gun each time.
The shop said if he painted the car, he would put on just enough paint to cover the car. Then about three coats of clear.
I think I'll just paint it myself. He said he wanted about $1600 to put the color and clear on after I did all the prep. Then he'd polish it- that itself was $600

You have to paint it yourself. After all that work, it would be like someone painting the Statue of Liberty green and taking credit for the whole shebang. It would be marrying your wife, then letting Deuce Bigalow have his way with her on your wedding night.

I forgot to mention. I acid etched the bottom of my car. Which is fine. The only thing is if you etch your car. You have to scrub it thoroughly because the etch leaves a waxy covering on the car. If you don't get that off. It will mess up the paint also.

I don't know how long is good to leave the car bare metal. I do know after media blasting some items and leaving them as is. A week later they had started to pit with rust. Unless I missed it. My eyes are getting worse as I get older. But I'm pretty sure I got it all though.
I did see on a show that there is a product out there that can be sprayed on bare metal and you can leave the car like that for a long time. I don't know the name of the stuff. I think I'm spraying mine this weekend with one of the primers.

I just received an Eastwood catalog today. Wow, I could spend some $$ there! But I think that's what I'm going to do- Use their system of paints and chemicals to get ready for a final coat, years in the future! It's nice to have a system

Yeah, you can spend some money buying supplies and equipment. I'm still prepping the car. I hope to have it prepped by next Friday so I can spray two coats of epoxy on it. Wait one day then spray the high build primer on Sunday. I'll have to block it then spray two more coats of epoxy. Then comes the paint.

I noticed a couple of vein like marks in the paint. I decided to inspect more. It was some rust starting underneath. So if you notice this. You'll want to remove it.

I did fill the antenna hole in today.

I was able to get another pound of media blast out of the car today. Plus about three dozen acorn nuts. I used Eastwoods Internal Frame Coating on the inside of the frame. That stuff is awesome. The nozzle sprays just right. Whoever thought of that was pretty smart. If your going to buy a can. All you'll need is one. Don't waste it though. If your going to do a double pass, do it after you hit all spaces. Now I feel the car is protected. I even did the seat frame uprights. I didn't have to drill any holes. There were plenty to get into all areas. Just make sure when you are spraying you don't pull the end completely out or it might deflect off the car and spray you. So safety equipment is a must.
If the weather holds out. I'm going for primer next weekend.

I got the body work done and started putting on the epoxy primer. Two coats so I could put on the high build primer tomorrow. Wouldn't you know. I ran out of it. So I still have to finish the doors. Do the hood, trunk, and wiper cowl hopefully tomorrow. I was hoping to put the high build primer on everything. Now I have to wait for two more good days to finish. Sigh! Here's some pic's. It does look good. No more seams. I did see one spot I have to work on. The high build primer should fix it though. It sure was a pain in the working with the paint gun , mini desiccant filter and the regulator on it. It was pretty long. That desiccant filter worked awesome though.

I got the high build primer on (2 coats)and the body work I did was right on. It looks awesome. I still may have to attend two little areas i didn't see though. Maybe I'm being annul.

You probalby know this already,...but you should change primer colours so you can see waves as you block sand it.

Yeah I just learned that. I'm still a beginner at this stuff. I never painted a car before. I'm just praying it comes out good. Paint is expensive. Not counting all my time I've invested.

It's not a smooth as the picture looks. It does look good though. I'm still figuring out how to adjust the paint gun. I'm getting better as I go though.
