New guy

Post by heavyhunter »

Howdy, I have a 1980 Spider 2000 Pinafarina that is a blast to drive, for my wife. I find that it is a little small for my frame, I feel like Mr. Incredble whenever I get into it. I am in the process of deciding to rebuild or sell, not really sure which direction to go. I am pretty sure my wife doesn't need another sporty car to get in trouble with around town.

Yes, these cars arent very good for big guys. I see clear over the windshield when the top is down and I have to bend my neck pretty steep to get in with the top up. I am 6'2 and 240

Hey - I'm 6'4" and 250 - and I fit just fine. Of course I have to tilt the seat back quite a bit and had to put a 12" diameter MOMO steering wheel so I had some leg room the get the clutch in and out. Fortunately I have long arms to reach the wheel. And I don't drive my Fiat when it's top up weather.

Stange, I bought the car because I thought it had a ton of room. I'm 6'4" 260. I have pretty long legs for my size. When the seat is all the way back I can just reach the wheel. I had a 3 series BMW and I like the way I fit in this car more.

Welcome Heavyhunter;
I have the same car as you and I fit quite OK with my 6' 6" & 250. I had a look at the Miatas, but they didn' fit at all.
Is the car needing much attention to be in good order?

Thank you for the welcomes!! The car wouldn't take too much to get it into great shape, mostly cosmetic. Sometimes I think it would be great to get it restored and drive but other times I look and decide that it would be happier at another home.
I do find it humorous that everyone has an idea what a large person consists of. I willingly admit that 6' 5" and over 250 is pretty good-sized but to truly appreciate what I am talking about add about 75 to 100 pounds to your frame and another in or two to your legs/torso. It is truly amazing what that extra size will do for you.

Oh my - now I understand your problem vis-a-vis fit in the Fiat....I'm not sure there is a solution to this one.
