Transmission pops out of 4th gear

Post by RoyBatty »

Hi all,
I have started driving my '75 Spider now that I am "right" with the DMV.
It has a 5 speed that is referred to as the "late style" in the Haynes manual.
I have noticed that the transmission will not stay in 4th gear when the engine isn't loaded, pulling the car.
If I let up on the accelerator or reach a point of coasting in 4th gear, she pops right out.
Where do I start?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mark,
Why the sad face.
It's a machine after all.
Parts wear or break down with use.
If there's parts available to fix it, then all is well.
Are these what you are listing?

the sad face is merely for the amount of work and expense involved in the repairs.
Yes the synchro and fork are what I mentioned but in addition you will probably need a hub also along with a set of bearings and gasket/seal set.

Thanks again Mark,
I am calling midwest124 about acquiring the needed parts.
Do you have any other sources that might be helpful in my parts quest?
