Cold and hot start problems

Looking for some help.........I have an 81 turbo that won't idle when cold and won't start when hot. So I I've tried to solve the problem by replacing the temp sensor and the temperature sending unit based on what I could deduce by reading previous posts. However I have had no luck, when started cold it fires right up then dies quickly unless it is reved until it is up to temp., then drives and idles perfectly for a short time till hot, but runs hot and won't start after being shut off. Any suggestions?
