I bought a nice 1980 spider about a month and a half ago. Last week, I was in a car accident and my car got smooshed. There is a 1976 spider that I can pick up for less than my deductible. Can I interchange parts from the 76 to the 80. I need help, please!

Sorry, here are some pics of my spider before and after the accident. http://s1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb4 ... G00017.jpg and after http://s1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb4 ... G00018.jpg. I have only been able to get an estimate from one shop and miss driving my convertible. Am in Washington state, so it won't be too long before I can drive it until the spring. But my plan is to slowly fix all the MANY little things that need attention and it will be my daughter's car when she gets her license.

Ouch sorry to see you got banged up. We lots of the body will fit right on to the 1980 from the 1976. The fender, lower fender valance, and lower valance should go right on. I would go for the 1976 option personally, but keep in mind pre1979 cars had stiffer but more rust prone metal. 1979 and up cars have less stiff metal but is far better against rust. I mention this as the fender arch might rust as many of these cars do. I'd love to sell you knew stuff though  , but for the sake of honesty I will vote get the 1976.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. At least you didn't get hurt. It doesn't look that bad. Just a fender. You just have to figure out if your willing to swap everything off this car to the other or fix this one. If you do the the 76 and take what you need off this one. You could probably sell what you have left to recoup some money.

Thanks for the info Matt! The problem I am having is getting a quote as we are in a rural area and getting parts is difficult at best. The one quote I was able to get was for $2900. The insurance adjuster came out and left a quote of $1,200. I will let them haggle over that matter, I wanted confirmation that I could use parts of the 76 and I don't just mean the body parts! My fuel gauge works only when the tank is half full or more. The car was mostly restored but it's all those other small items that I would probably pay a fortune for that I want to get off the 76.
