So, I went to get my inspection today and the car was running good. I haven't filled the car up with gas in a few months since I have been mainly working on it doing various maintenance work and today went to Hess and got $10 worth. So after that I drove around a few blocks and went to the inspection station and when I shut it off, 2 seconds later the car sounded like it started again, heard a grinding sound and then cut off.
Other things I have noticed lately:
1. Starter turns over but engine doesn't start right away, sometimes it sounds like theres not enogh voltage getting to the starter.
Any ideas.

Sounds like your ignition switch is messed up. I would try to hot wire it and see if that takes care of the problem.

Sounds to me like it might be haunted. The last time I saw a car re-start itself was in the movie Christine .
I agree that your first look should be at the ignition switch.

How do I check the ignition switch to if its the issue?
Re: Car goes back on after I shut the ignition off
Unless you want to take apart the ignition switch, the easiest way is to replace the switch for a good reliable one and see if the problem disappears. This link may give you more info on this subjectFiat88 wrote:How do I check the ignition switch to if its the issue?

Thanks for the link! Don't know if its related or not but today I was retrieving a nut which fell into a "black hole" in the engine bay and my Fossil watch which I forgot to take off contacted the back of the alternator, so it sparked. I checked the fuse box for any blown fuses and saw one(8 amp) which was almost broken in the middle, so I replaced it. Could I have damaged the ignition switch? Just thought I would mention it.
