Hello,

I am a new member from California and own an 1981 Spider Turbo with 38K miles. I joined so for the technical discussions on maintaining the LI Turbo and all around fun with these cars.

My very first car was a 1977 Spider which was quite rusty in rural Pennsylvania.

Welcome to the Forum Ruben!
Did you buy your 81 new? How about some pic's. That thing has to look good with those low miles.

Welcome to the forum! We'd love to see pics of your Turbo. Not many of those that haven't had the turbo removed.

Hi there, welcome to the forum. You'll find that this is a very friendly and helpful place to visit.
What part of California are you in? There are groups in SoCal and the Bay area that get together occasionally. There's a couple of guys up north also, but if that's where you are, I'd be cautious about hooking up with htchevyii (Trey), his 82 will just make you jealous.
Please post pics of your car for us.

Thanks for the welcome. I recently purchased the car and live in the Bay Area. Here is a pic while at the Concorso Italiano Show this month.

Hi John,

Thanks for the welcome. Any suggestion on where I could get the Turbo rebuilt. The Turbo is not in need of a rebuild now but maybe in the future. Also, any suggestions for keeping this thing running great?

Thanks and regards,
Ruben

Ruben,

I had mine rebuilt at Spooled Motorsports in LA. Mine seemed to be operating normally, but was allowing a good bit of oil past the seals and into the intake. Plus, I had a bad exhaust manifold gasket, so since I had the turbo off the car anyway, I decided to have it rebuilt.

Other than not dipping into the boost until the car is warmed up, all there is nothing special to keeping the turbo models running well. Just the same as all the normal issues associated with the FI cars -- timing belt, guibo, fuel hoses, etc.
