Trans wire question

Post by johnssi »

HI all, Here's a question for you. I've had the trans out of my 81 spider and upon putting it back in I've noticed in the Brooklands manual that it says to hook up the "electrical switch loop terminal to the stud on the lower right corner of the trans case". So here's the problem - I have the stud but no wire. I have complete photos of before I started to disassemble everything and have not disconnected a wire from that stud. Anybody have any idea of what that is all about? Is it possibly it's for and automatic trans? I have a manual trans. Any help would be appreciated as always. John

as I recall there is a ground wire that attaches to the stud.

There is a very heavy ground wire there. A bad ground connection at that point caused my injectors to behave very badly, and it's restoration had a profoundly positive effect.

Thanks for the replies Mark and Luddite. Is this a wire differing from the very heavy ground which attaches at the Bell-housing, front left side of the trans? The stud in question is located at the back of the right side of the trans. I don't even see where a wire could be coming from. John

I have a ground wire that attaches to the stud at the rr of the trans on a 74 tranny I just put in the shed this afternoon. It comes from the switch just a few inches in front of it. Could get you a pic if you like.

Thanks Keith, that would be great. I have the wire for what I believe is the reverse switch, but this stud is located forward of that with no switch in sight for it. ???????

WOW, Thanks Keith for the picture! I don't have anything like that. I have an aluminum plug in place of where the switch is in your trans. I was assuming that it was the fill port for the trans, but did only put the required 1 and 3/4 quarts of fluid. So I guess all is ok since I don't have the wire or the switch.
