Pulling hard to the right

Post by Chaco »

When I bought this car a few months ago, the car would pull to the right when I braked. I went ahead a changed the things that usually cause it like the front calipers, rotors, and brake lines. I also changed the upper and lower ball joints. A mechanic friend checked the work and all was done correctly.

Now there's no pulling at low speeds but once I go over 30 miles an hour it pulls very hard to the right. I also noticed that the steering wheel gets stuck for a quick second when I make a fast right hand turn. I'm not sure if maybe these two things are related. Does anyone know what could possibly cause this?

I took it to a mechanic to check it and he says that it's the steering box that's causing both problems. I imagine that the steering box might cause the sticking on the steering but would it cause my pulling to the right when braking? Any advice, tips, or any ideas on what to check would be greatly appreciated.

Check your bushings, ball joints, tierod ends and alignment. If excessively worn they can cause pulling when braking.

You can add oil to the steering box and the idler to free up the steering. As for the pulling to the right when braking, like Rook says, a worn suspension can also cause it.
