I got a 2x10 from Home Depot thinking I would try the dash and see how it comes out. I was figuring on making a mold of it out of fiberglass. Then make one out of carbon fiber. The more I sanded this piece of pine. The more I liked how the grain looked. Now I'm not sure which way I want to go. Too bad it wasn't a nice piece of cherry. I guess I could do another one. I could go by these dimensions. Problem is I don't have any place around here to get the wood. I would have to order it. I would rather see what I'm getting. IF I decide to keep this dash. I will hollow it out to lighten it. Then fully seal it.
I don't want it to warp later.

I just purchase the exhaust header and the Ferrari Gt 250 fiberglass dash from So Cal Mark. I have to say these are some cool items. Just from the looks of them. They are top Quality items! I wish I could show you pic's of them on the car but I can't. Still working on getting it painted.

This is what three days of welding looks like. :? The first piece I had to cut back out after the first day of welding. I just bought a filled gas bottle for the welder. So It's really hot out and I'm sweating. Not because it was hot though. Because the welder just wanted to spit some weld onto the steel instead of welding it. I checked for gas flow. I can hear it. I checked the polarity. It's right. I checked to make sure everything was clean. It was. I checked everything. Still the welder didn't want to weld. I thought could it be the humidity? I don't know. So, on the third day I get pi$$@d. I take the nozzle apart and try putting some welding wire in it. It really doesn't go to far. So I blow into the holes. Even though I could hear the gas escaping. It wasn't coming out enough. I couldn't believe it. I wasted two days because of this.
I had to cut the inside of the valance to pull the whole top outward. When I welded the pipes in to hold the corvette lights. The whole thing must have went inward and the trunk overlapped the valance by about a 1/4". Finally I got that part done and the trunk lines up with the back now. Now back to bodywork.

Dash is nice but Do NOT use it permanently. It is just dimensional lumber, It will warp, it will crack between the holes, It has too much moisture in it, it can't take the heat unless it is force held into position, (as in construction) It will orange color on you, Believe me, I am a 3rd generation woodworker. I know these things. Just picture a 2x4 sitting outside over winter.

Thanks for the tidbit. I'm using the GT 250 dash that Mark sells. I'll tell my buddy I gave it too though.

I decided to fill in the seams. Hopefully the back will be done by the weekend. It's been about 4-5 days+ going to work.

ooh, that's starting to look cool.
What about that seam/lip that runs below each tail light, from side to side.... Can that be removed?

Yeah,
I recently saw a car without it. I thought it would be better with it though. I decided to do the seams going around the corner pieces too. I'll keep showing pic's as I progress.

I removed the seam on my spider I think it cleans up the back a lot.

Did you keep your license plate on the top? I moved it to the bottom. I drilled a whole below the lip for the wire to go to the license plate light that mounts to the top of the plate. That's why I want to keep the lip. To hide the wire.
I just love the way the back end curves. These lights are going to look cool.

I mounted the plate to the rear bumper, its just a proto type I made from a 1967 Camaro bumper I had laying around.
