Changing the Water Pump

Post by Chaco »

I'm planning on changing the water pump on my '72 Spider but I have a couple of questions. I have two shop manuals and neither really provide good info on how to do this. First of all, it doesn't say if I need to tighten the bolts to a certain torque specification. Does anyone know what it is, or if it's necessary? Also, do I need to take out the radiator and timing belt cover to install it? It doesn't seem like I do. I searched through these forums as well but couldn't find answers to these two questions.

6mm bolts use about 6ft lbs of torque. Most importantly, use a tap and clean the threads in the block and on the bolts. Then quote with antiseize before re-installing. The job is easier with the timing cover removed, but you can work around it if need be.
